Llanwrtyd was a Spa Town following the discovery of waters with healing properties in 1732. Spa 'fashion' reached its heyday in Victorian times and many of today's hotels and boarding houses date from then.
Builth Wells, with its fine 18th century bridge crossing the river Wye, was a fashionable spa during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The town retains an appealing character with narrow streets offering an interesting and varied selection of goods.
