This is a 1 day tour around Cardiff, the Capital of Wales, sampling one of the best collections of art in Europe and a tour of the capital’s historic and iconic architecture.

Impressionists & Post Impressionists

The tour begins at The National Museum Cardiff. The museum consists of 15 galleries and it has a one of the largest collection of French Impressionist works in Europe. Guided tours of the historic art galleries are available.

Recommend light refreshments and snacks at the museum’s coffee shop.

Edwardian Splendour

After light refreshment, the tour resumes from the steps of The National Museum Cardiff with a historical walking tour around Cathays Park. The museum and the various other buildings are situated in what has been acclaimed as one of the finest civic centres in Europe.

A quick tour of City Hall, built in Portland stone with its design based on English and French Renaissance.

A short walk from City Hall is Alexandra Garden, a 2.5 hectare beautifully maintained garden featuring the Welsh National War Memorial which commemorates soldiers of World War One. The other two gardens – Gorsedd and Friary Gardens, complete this picturesque landscape right in the heart of the city.

Contemporary Visions

Leaving Cathays Park, the tour takes us through High Street and St Mary Street where Victorian and Edwardian shopping arcades meander off the main thoroughfare.

The tour heads towards Cardiff Bay, home to some of Wales' newest buildings where the first stop is Wales Millennium Centre.  A special tour of this building combines a look behind the scenes with an understanding of how the vision took shape and how the building was constructed.

Another inspiring piece of architecture is The Senedd, which is the new debating chamber of the National Assembly for Wales. The building was opened on St David’s Day, 1 March 2006. This building with its unmistakeable undulating roof and open design was conceived on the main principle of energy conservation. Incorporated in the design are renewable energy system and recycling features.
